XC at Tioga Central --> --> Putting all of our energy forward The sport is distance running off of the track. Typical competition distances are five kilometers for high schoolers and 2500km for 7th and 8th graders ('modified'). That's one and a half to three miles of running up and down hills, around trees and along roadsides. Cross country is a great sport for young men and women who want a little foot racing to help them get in better shape and enjoy the autumn outdoors. Coach Stuart Rogers, T.C. High School (687-8001) srogers@tiogacentral.org http://tullyrunners.com is a great source for Cross Country information THE SECTION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS at Chenango Valley State Park golf course November 1st included a grand finale for seniors Emily Stansfield, Connor Swagler, and Jacob Schweiger who all improved their times on the course significantly. Freshman Gage Lubertowicz ran well as second-fastest for Tioga as he did most of the season. Senior Brenden Walker qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row by placing fourth in the Class D race! The cross country celebration with food and awards is Thursday, November 15th at 6pm, in the high school cafeteria. Contact the coach about food and/or photos that you might bring to share. The Booster Club is nicely providing some drinks and pizza. DON'T FORGET TO BRING IN UNIFORMS AND HOODIES. IAC championships: OK, so we finished in last place but Brenden Walker, Tyler Predix, Gage Lubertowicz, and Jacob Schweiger all ran their best yet, while senior Connor Swagler finished the 3.1 miles in spite of recovering from being ill just so Tioga could finally score as a team this season! Congratulations to Brenden for finishing ninth out of a hundred runners to earn his spot on the IAC second team All Stars! SENIORS: On November 10th, Brenden Walker achieved his season goal of running a five kilometer race faster than 18 minutes when he finished 41st in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Class D Championship race at Elma Meadows with a time of 17:45. Brenden is a member of National Honor Society. Congratulations to Jacob Schweiger who was honored as a Cross Country Scholar-Athlete from Tioga Central at the IAC meet! Jacob received the plaque after running his PR on the Marathon course. Jacob is a member of National Honor Society. Emily Stansfield has returned from boot camp for the National Guard. Emily has been central to the spirit of the Tioga team, so it is good to have her back. It was great to see her run her best 3 mile race at the McQuaid Invitational on September 29th. Emily is a member of National Honor Society. Connor Swagler brought experience and self-described wisdom to the team while showing the younger members that big improvements can be made if you don't let your doubts hold you back.
